Teacher Spotlight! - Allison Brinkerhoff
Mud Flower Teacher,
Allison is SUPER COOL, she is extremely creative, kind, and she rides a motorcycle!!! We know you will love her as much as we do! Here are some fun facts about Allison!
MF: What’s your favorite movie and why?
A: My favorite movie is Mulan. It has been for years. I love the music and the color and the landscape throughout the show. Mulan's character is courageous, smart, hardworking, and loves her family. In the end, she stays true to her character but continues to do hard things despite being repeatedly told she can't. She finds that she has true friends and the love of family. I love happy endings.
MF: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
So, I grew up with five brothers and no sisters. I have had a very fun life. The things one might say are crazy were just normal experiences, like riding a motorcycle or cliff jumping. For me, the craziest thing I did was to participate in a Junior Miss Pageant to try to get a scholarship for college. For a girl who didn't wear makeup or ever walk in high heels, I was so out of my element. My brothers didn't even recognize me in my dress with the curly hair and made up face until I started to walk. I suppose my arm swing didn't match my stride, much like a lumberjack compared to the other young ladies. First and last time doing something like that. It was crazy.
MF: Why did you want to work with Mud Flower?
A: Kids are awesome, resilient, and the future. I have three kids of my own and feel that I have an investment in youth. I believe that teaching children mindfulness, meditation, and movement is giving them tools to help them grow in mind, body, and spirit. It is empowering. Compassion and love, for self and others, and a healthy body and mind can be achieved regardless of the environment. Anxiety and depression is growing almost exponentially in teens and kids. I want to teach kids how to enjoy being kids so they grow to enjoy being adults.
MF: What’s your favorite food?
A: Curry. Sandwiches. Pizza. Tacos. I just like food, in general.
MF: If you could hang out and meditate with one movie star, who would it be?
A: Emily Blunt. Have you seen her mayurasana?
MF: What would your Magic Wand Wish be?
A: I would wish that schools would have kids plant gardens, eat and prepare real food, promote more movement and mindfulness daily.
MF: What is your mantra?
MF: What would your current self-tell your 20-year-old self?
A: To enjoy everything because it goes by fast and to be present. I was told that all the time and didn't listen.
