Take A Wonder Walk

How to go on a Mindful Wonder Walk:

 

Where:

Find a safe place to go for a hike or walk outside. It could be as simple as somewhere in your neighborhood, a local park, or your favorite getaway place in the wild! 

 

Check In:

 

Start with checking in. Ask your child how they are feeling. Do they have a lot of energy, are they relaxed, or are they somewhere in between? 

 

Ask questions: 

As you begin to walk, keep asking questions. Think about going through your senses. What do you see? What colors can you find as you walk? What do you smell? What do you taste? What does the earth feel like beneath your feet? Is it rocky, grassy, inclined or hilly? What do the trees and grass feel like? What do you hear? Continuing to ask questions that help them connect to their senses will keep them focused and engaged. Notice how you sense similar things, and how your senses pick up on different things.  

 

 

Check in again:

Check in again at the end of the walk and/or throughout and see how their energy is changing as you walk and discover!  Share your discoveries. Notice the world through each other’s eyes! It's a great way to connect with each other! 

 

Be Earth Friendly:

Don’t forget to take a plastic bag with you and pick up any garbage you see along the way. This small lesson of being kind to the earth will help them cultivate awareness for our environment as well!
